Virginia  8‑Hour Driver Improvement Course Practice Test

Managing impaired visibility while driving is crucial for safety on the road. The recommended approach is to use headlights and windshield wipers when necessary. Headlights improve visibility for both the driver and for others on the road, especially during rain, fog, or other conditions that limit sight. Windshield wipers are essential during rain or when there are other obstructions on the windshield, helping the driver maintain a clear view of the road ahead.

Using headlights in conjunction with windshield wipers provides a comprehensive strategy to combat impaired visibility. It ensures that not only is the driver's view unobstructed, but it also enhances the ability for other drivers to see the vehicle. This is especially necessary since visibility can be significantly reduced in poor weather conditions, making it imperative to have both tools functioning properly.

Driving at a slower speed without further adjustments does not adequately address visibility issues. Similarly, relying solely on defrosters or using headlights only in bad weather neglects the comprehensive measures needed for safe driving in various conditions. Thus, using both headlights and windshield wipers when necessary is the most effective and responsible way to manage impaired visibility.
